Now, I Happen To Be An Optimist.

We Are Not A Warlike People. Nor Is Our History Filled With Tales Of Aggressive Adventures And Imperialism, Which Might Come As A Shock To Some Of The Placard Painters In Our Modern Demonstrations. The Lesson Of Vietnam, I Think, Should Be That Never Again Will Young Americans Be Asked To Fight And Possibly Die For A Cause Unless That Cause Is So Meaningful That We, As A Nation, Pledge Our Full Resources To Achieve Victory As Quickly As Possible.

You Know, By The Time You Reach My Age, You've Made Plenty Of Mistakes If You've Lived Your Life Properly. So You Learn. You Put Things In Perspective. You Pull Your Energies Together. You Change. You Go Forward. My Fellow Americans, I Have A Great Deal That I Want To Accomplish With You And For You Over The Next Two Years. And, The Lord Willing, That's Exactly What I Intend To Do.

America Was Founded By People Who Believe That God Is Their Rock Of Safety.

I Know In My Heart That Man Is Good. That What Is Right Will Always Eventually Triumph. And There's Purpose And Worth To Each And Every Life.
